Advanced Diploma in Jewellery Design and Management

Geared towards the graduate whose interest is in a career in the corporate jewellery industry, this educational path expands their understanding of design and gemology concepts, refines their fabrication skills and introduces business skills necessary for rapid promotion within existing, reputable jewellery design firm.
Course Duration : Full-time; 6 months
Part-time; 12-18 months
Tuition Fees : $19,000+GST

Culminating in an internship with one of Singapore's jewellery manufacturers or retailers, graduates exit with the experience and confidence to build a successful career in jewellery.

Course Modules Include:

JD201 - Advanced Jewellery Design

This course covers advanced paper design technique designers use to convey subtle fabrication hints to the intended manufacturers. Designers also learn about how to design jewellery that is ideally suited to different mass-production techniques. Students also learn of the different Computer Aided Jewellery Design tools that are available in the market and the concepts and skills they need to master to transfer their paper-skills to computer.


BS205 - International Law & Jewellery Trade

This module covers the judicial decisions, statutes and regulatory rules that affect the jewellery industry as a whole. Students begin with an understanding of import and export requirements and restrictions on precious metals and gemstones, including an understanding of the ongoing effect of illegal gemstone trade in many African countries. Students also understand the legal requirements in various major countries such as the USA pertaining to the presentation and sale of gemstones and jewellery and how such laws can be ascertained and understood in the student's home country.


BS207 - Business Accounting

Students understand the need for accurate and disciplined accounting and learn how entries, ledgers and journals, when properly recorded contribute to creating comprehensive financial statements. Students then learn how to review these statements to determine overall business success, identify the most profitable products, effectively manage their inventory and understand what the major cost drivers are for business in general.


BS209 - Fundamentals of Information Technology

This course covers the fundamental concepts of information technology. Students will learn about issues related to the applications of information technology in an organization. This course emphasizes conceptual understandings of each area such as hardware, software, operating systems, database, data communications, networking and Internet. This course will teach students about the emergence of digital technologies in today's information culture. The course will provide the necessary understanding needed to perform essential information management and use.


BS211 - Introduction to Economics

This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of economics and its uses in business applications to make decisions. Students will learn to understand the use of theoretical tools for economic analysis and explore how theses tools are applicable to government, domestic and international markets. The course will provide students an overview of how broad range policy questions can be addressed scientifically.


BS212 - Business Management

This course will cover the essentials that are required for students to understand the starting of their own business and managing the organization, economy, product, purchasing and distribution of their product and services. Students have clear understanding of the types of business ownership and its legal requirements. The course will also enlighten students on the use of information technology and effective business communication.


BS213 - Business Statistics

In this course students will learn the applications of statistical analysis for business, decision making. Students will have a clear understanding of how data is collected for business analysis and apply the relevant statistical calculations to make conclusions. Besides, the module will also teach students the presentation of data for management to appreciate and understand the researched information better.


BS250 - Project/Internship

(based on availability)

By working with industry leaders in the fine jewellery and fashion jewellery segments, interns learn practical lessons from on the day-to-day retail or design roles they will undertake. Interns will be evaluated on their individual skills as well as their contribution to their team's overall performance.

When an internship is not available, students will be given an independent project to fulfil. The project will entail the proposed designing, manufacturing, planning and marketing of a product and its business management.
